THIS IS A CLOSE LOOK FROM A FLOOD THAT TOOK PLACE IN NORWAY WHEN I WAS IN THE ARMY ,SOME PICTURES AND SOME TEXT TO DESCRIBE WHAT WAS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY.............

THIS IS A STORY OF HOW I AND MY FELLOWS IN THE ARMY ACTED DURING THE FLOOD..............! WE WERE AWAKED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, AND WE HAD TO PACK OUR GEAR IN A HURRY. THEN WE WERE GIVEN SOME MORE GEAR FROM THE BOSSES WHICH WE PLACED ON SEVERAL BUSSES WHO WERE GOING TO TAKE US TO A PLACE CALLED FLISA! WHERE THE WATER ALREADY HAD DEMOLISHED A LOT OF BUILDINGS, ROADS AND FARMLANDS! WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HELP THE PEOPLE BUILD DIKES, SO WE COULD PREVENT THE WATER FROM DESTROYING MORE BUILDINGS, ROADS AND FARMLANDS! WE WERE TAKEN A LOT OF PLACES IN A PERIOD OF FOUR WEEKS AND GAINED A LOT OF DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES; LIKE ANGER, REAL HARD WORK, LITTLE FOOD, STRESS AND COMPLETE EXHAUSTION!

THIS IS A PLACE CALLED TRETTEN! WHEN WE GOT HERE THE FARMERS AND SOME OTHER PEOPLE FROM THE ARMY HAD MANAGED TO BUILD A DIKE TO PREVENT THE WATER FROM FLUSHING OVER THEIR FARMLANDS! BUT IT WAS STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE! HERE WE WERE FILLING SACKS OF SAND TO USE WITH THE DIKE! AND LUCKILY THE DIKE DID HOLD HERE!!!!!! BUT IT WAS SOME REAL CLOSE CALLS! BECAUSE THE WATER TRIED TO DIG ITSELF UNDER THE DIKE! BUT LUCKILY THE DIKE DID HOLD......!

HERE WE ARE HAVING A BREAK! WHEN WE WERE WORKING HERE, WE HAD FIVE HOURS WHERE WE WERE FILLING UP BAGS WITH SAND, AND THEN WE HAD A FIVE HOUR BREAK! AND I CAN PROMISE YOU......IT WAS REAL HARD! THIS LASTED FOR ABOUT HALF A WEEK! THE TENT YOU SEE IS A 12 MAN TENT WHICH IS STANDARD EQUIPMENT IN THE ARMY! AND BY THE WAY THESE BREAKS WERE USALLY SPENT TRYING TO GET SOME SLEEP, SOMETHING WE NEVER COULD GUARANTEE WE WOULD GET! BUT IN THE END WE WERE SO EXHAUSTED THAT WE FELL ASLEEP ANYWAY!!!!!!!

THIS IS THE TEAM I WORKED IN! THE PILE YOU SEE HERE ARE "TOO MANY" BAGS OF SAND!!!!! I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT!!!!!!!! THIS IS MANY HOURS WORK AND THE PILE WAS GROWING AND GROWING! AND HOW MANY BAGS OF SAND IT WAS IN THE END I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!!

HERE WE ARE LOADING BAGS INTO A TRACTOR'S SHOVEL WHO LIFTED THE BAGS ONTO A TRUCK! THEN THE TRUCKS DROVE OFF TO DELIVER THE BAGS TO A PLACE WHERE THE DIKE NEEDED TO BE STHRENGTHED! AND THIS KEPT ON GOING ALL THE TIME WE WERE THERE!! FILL UP THE BAGS THEN THEY GOT DRIVEN AWAY!!!! WE WERE DIRTY, EXHAUSTED AND MOST OF ALL WE WERE TIRED!!! BUT NO MORE REST OR SLEEP THAN FIVE HOURS WAS GIVEN TO US!!!!!! AND THAT MADE MANY PEOPLE MORE AND MORE EXHAUSTED! SO THE WORK WAS GOING SLOWER AND SLOWER! BUT WE GOT A SHIFT AFTER FOUR OR FIVE DAYS!! THEN WE WENT BACK TOOK A SHOWER AND SLEPT! FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS! AND THEN WE WERE AWAKED AGAIN AND IT WAS TIME TO GO TO ANOTHER PLACE....................!!!

THIS IS ANOTHER PLACE WHERE THE THINGS HAD CALMED AND WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GUARD THE PEOPLES HOUSES FROM ROBBERS!! THE PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED, AND WE KEPT GUARD AROUND THE DIKE! HERE THE DIKE WAS CLOSE TO PERISH AND WE HAD TO EVACUATE OURSELF! AND THE ONLY WAY WE COULD HIDE OURSELF WAS UP IN THE HILL! WE MADE CAMP ON A FIELD IN THE HILL!! THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE WHO TRIED TO PREVENT THE DIKE FROM PERISHING WITH BIG MACHINES! AND LUCKILY THAY MADE IT WITHOUT ANY COSTS! ONLY A LITTLE WAS DESTROYED UNDER THIS PROSSES!! BUT IT WAS A THOUGH TIME FOR US AND ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT THEIR HOUSES WOULD BE DESTROYED BY THE WATER!!!!!

HERE IS THE PLACE CALLED TRETTEN! HERE YOU SEE WHAT THE WATER HAS DONE TO THE HOUSES! IT DID STAND A HOUSE WHERE THE WATER RUNS NOW! BUT IT AIN'T ANY SIGNS OF IT! THE RIVER WAS SO BIG AND SO STRONG THAT IT FORCED ITSELF A NEW WAY TO GO! THE BRIDGE WE ARE UPON WAS BUILT WHEN THE WATER HAD CALMED........A LOT!!!! HERE THE PEOPLE LOST A LOT OF VALUES! SOME OF THE THINGS WAS FLUSHED AWAY WITH THE WATER AND WERE LOST FOREVER! BUT THE PEOPLE WERE GLAD FOR THE HELP THEY GOT FROM US IN THE ARMY AND A LOT OF OTHER VOLENTEERS! HERE WE WALKED PATROL ON ROADS THAT WAS BUILT UP AGAIN AFTER THE WATER HAD WASHED THEM AWAY! THE PATROL TIME WAS 4 HOURS WITH WALKING AND OBSERVATION THEN WE HAD 4 HOURS REST! AND EVERY DAY A LOT OF PEOPLE CAME TO WATCH THE DAMAGES AND OUR JOB BECAME TO TRY AND KEEP THE CURIOUS PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE HOUSES AND DANGEROUS AREAS! AND THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED TO CROSS THIS BRIDGE! THE KING WERE HERE WHILE WE WERE ON GUARD AND INSPECTED THE DAMAGES AND TRIED TO CHEER UP THE PEOPLE!

THE FLOOD LUCKILY ONLY DEMANDED 1 DEAD PERSON! BUT IT CAUSED HAVOC,TEARS AND A LOT OF HARD WORK FOR MANY PEOPLE! HOW MUCH MONEY IT WILL TAKE TO REBUILD IT ALL I DON'T KNOW, BUT THAT IT WILL COST A LOT THAT I CAN ASURE YOU ABOUT! I HOPE YOU LIKED THIS LITTLE PIECE OF WORK! FOR IT IS DEDICATED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOST SOMETHING, OR EVERYTHING UNDER THE FLOOD! AND A BIG THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED THE PEOPLE WHO NEEDED HELP DURING AND AFTER THE FLOOD!

(THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN STOP THE NATURE FROM GOING IT'S OWN WAY! WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP ON WORKING AND TRY TO LIVE WITH IT, EVEN THOUGH IT CAUSES US A LOT OF DAMAGE!)(SAID BY A FARMER I MET IN FLISA)
